Inventors

Important research is happening at Syracuse University. The Office of Technology Transfer relies heavily on faculty and other inventors to report when a new technology has been developed. This process is facilitated via the Online Invention Disclosure Portal. Invention disclosures are then triaged and evaluated, and many move through to the intellectual property (IP) protection process. Patents and patent-pending technologies and some copyrights, especially software, are suitable for IP licensing as the step between creation/protection and commercialization. Sometimes the IP is basic science and our licensees must further develop the technology before launching a product or service. Other times, the IP is substantially ready for the market. Often, an invention is valuable in multiple fields of use, each with its own characteristics and launch horizon.
